The client is a global communications company offering innovative platforms and solutions for the telecommunications industry. Orion has been their strategic technology partner for over 30+ years. Over time, our role expanded from contributing to development to becoming a full product owner, responsible for building, modernizing, and supporting their core communications platforms.

Challenge

The client’s communications platforms were facing mounting challenges. Legacy systems needed to be modernized into cloud-native, SaaS, and microservices-based solutions, while fragmented ownership across multiple vendors and geographies slowed delivery.

Release cycles were lagging behind market expectations, and a growing Tier-3 backlog was undermining service quality. At the same time, Tier-1 global operators required platforms that could scale to tens of millions of subscribers while continuing to deliver new features at speed—demands that the existing model struggled to meet.

Solution

Orion became the client’s long-term development partner, managing the full product lifecycle and taking full ownership of product development and support. We established a dedicated delivery center in Istanbul in 2021, rapidly deploying 250+ engineers.

To build the team quickly and efficiently, we used a combination of:

  • Rebadging existing client resources
  • Structured knowledge transfer from previous teams
  • Targeted training programs to ramp engineers on core platforms

This approach allowed us to assume full responsibility for call controllers, telephony servers, UCaaS, CPaaS, WebRTC gateways, and messaging systems with minimal disruption, delivering 10+ major releases/year and 120+ new features annually.
