Our microservice-based solution covered a number of functions for the association, an example being player discipline. The new discipline system featured end-to-end integration creating a single source of information for league officials, teams, and players. Now when a player receives a penalty or ejection, the centralized system can track that information and notify players of the resulting suspension and or fines. It has reduced administrative burden and increased transparency and efficiency for everyone involved. The client is a major European sports association with a rich history spanning 150+ years and some of the most valuable franchises in the sports world. Challenge The client’s legacy platform was built over the years with new modules being added based on need. They had 14 modules with multiple instances and clients across 18 counties, with unique hosting and support requirements resulting in duplication of code and bugs. Their outdated tech stacks had high maintenance, upgrade, and hosting costs leading to scalability issues and long lead times for software rollout and deployment. Solution The client brought Orion in to help completely transform their digital systems. Our team took an approach of 20% rehosting, 70% refactoring, and 10% retiring legacy systems. We applied a modern application development approach with software as a service hosted through a multi-tenancy model. Orion’s design led, technology driven method proved to be a key factor in the success of this digital transformation engagement. Our solution was a microservice-based application allowing for greater testability, scalability, and easy technical upgrades while being quick to production, independent, and secure. The cloud-agnostic solution was built with advanced security with each client having data housed separately while maintaining clear visibility and tracking of risk, costs, and more. Impact The client’s software was now highly reliable at a much lower cost. The new cloud-based applications are scalable and customizable. This increased flexibility and modularity allowed for new features and upgrades to be introduced for free or at a very low cost to clients.
