Corporate Social Responsibility

Our Focus

We aspire “nothing but the best,” with a workforce of more than 1,900 associates. And, with a multinational base of more than 15 nationalities, we are connected to the communities in which we operate. As our reach and footprint expands we have identified healthcare and environment as two of our priorities for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

We support research focused on preventing birth defects and infant mortality and organizations that aid in preservation and protection of the environment, working closely with community groups and charitable organizations that support our priorities.

Orion’s efforts for Kerala Floods

When a devastating flood wreaked havoc across the state of Kerala, employees at Orion’s Kochi office were among the first to roll up their sleeves and get into the rescue act. Some of them helped set up an emergency help-desk at the District Collector’s Office that worked continuously on a 24x7 basis during the three worst days of the flood. They attended thousands of calls from affected people as well as from relatives living outside Kerala, and passed on the location coordinates to rescue teams, as well as details about the number of people stranded at a given location, their health condition, whether anyone was in need of immediate medical attention, availability of water and food etc. Using this information, teams engaged in rescue and relief operations were able to rescue thousands of people stranded in different parts of the district, and to reach food, water and medicines to hundreds of thousands of others.

A number of other employees volunteered to work in relief camps where people rescued from the flood affected areas were accommodated, ensuring they had a steady supply of food, drinking water, clothes and other requisites. Ham radio enthusiasts from the company ventured out into areas where communication lines had failed, and helped in coordinating rescue and relief operations.

Cleaning up after the flood waters had receded was another herculean task. Team Orion set out armed with buckets and brooms, first cleaning up the houses of employees who were affected, and then spreading their effort to wider areas.

Employees engaged in all these activities had the full support of the Company. Going beyond, as part of its CSR program the Company provided financial assistance to employees whose houses were badly damaged by the flood waters, and also offered interest-free loans to employees who were affected by the floods in any way.

Extending support to Children’s of Alabama child care programs

Ranked among the best pediatric medical centers in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Children’s provided care for youngsters from every county in Alabama, 45 other states, and six foreign countries last year, representing more than 677,000 outpatient visits and more than 15,000 inpatient admissions. Orion was a proud sponsor at the 2018 Regions Tradition Golf Tournament which has chosen Children’s of Alabama as the primary beneficiary of the tournament.

Orion is a proud sponsor of the March of Dimes, March for Babies.

The March of Dimes foundation is focused on preventing birth defects and infant mortality. The organization has led the way to discover the genetic causes of birth defects, to promote newborn screening, and to educate medical professionals and the public about best practices for healthy pregnancy.

The ‘Make a Wish Foundation’ is Orion’s charity of choice.

Make a Wish grants wishes to kids with life-threatening medical conditions and gives them more than an amazing experience. A wish come true has the power to make kids feel stronger, more courageous and more determined to overcome their illnesses. A combined 89 percent of doctors, nurses and health professionals surveyed say they believe a wish experience can influence wish kids’ physical health. To date, Orion has granted two wishes to children in the state of New Jersey: a wish trip to Disneyworld and a wish of a high-tech computer room.
