How Rheem and Orion Built an Award-Winning Application to Transform Contractor Efficiency 

Rheem is a global manufacturer of residential and commercial Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) products and water heaters and boilers. Rheem has trusted Orion as a partner for design and engineering for multiple digital products. 

Challenge

Rheem’s HVAC systems and water heaters feature built-in IoT capabilities through connected components. By leveraging these IoT capabilities, Rheem wanted to empower contractors and service personnel with enhanced diagnostics and repair capabilities to optimize operational efficiency.  

Solution

As a trusted partner, Rheem, collaborated with our Experience Design experts to develop the Rheem Contractor App to simplify the lives of both contractors and customers. Our team built an extensive component library and design language to ensure that Rheem’s digital experiences were aligned and scalable. The app allowed contractors and service personnel to access Rheem products via Bluetooth to gain real-time insight into issues. Through communication with IoT components, contractors’ phones received detailed information, including step-by-step repair instructions, required parts,  and how to install. 

Impact

The Rheem Contractor App streamlined the install and repair process for contractors working with Rheem products. The Contractor App earned high ratings from reviewers and won the ‘Connected Home Innovation of the Year’ from the IoT Breakthrough Awards in 2023.
