The beginning of school is symbolic of a fresh start and an exciting year of learning ahead. For many students, it’s not that simple. It can be a time of stress, anxiety, and fear – especially for those in need.
It is estimated that the trauma of the pandemic, combined with school closures and inconsistent remote learning, equated to at least 12 months of lost learning for some students in the New York City area over the last year. The coming school year will be one of the most critical for our city’s students.
This school year, Orion partnered with New York Cares to help students prepare for going back to the classroom. Orion was proud to donate $5,000 to ensure that New York Cares can deliver backpacks to schools in need across New York City. A team of Orion associates also joined New York Cares’ annual backpack stuffing event to fill backpacks with essential school supplies and leave notes of encouragement for local students.

At Orion, we’re committed to a fair and equitable society and impacting the communities where we live and work. Education continues to be one of our core values, and one of our five core Corporate Social Responsibility focus areas. We believe that education can increase the standard of living globally and raise families out of poverty. We value education and have innovated technology solutions for educational institutions in emerging markets to help administer education and increase access for all. We are committed to helping provide better access to technology education and will continue to support worthy causes around the world in support of that mission.
Orion has a strong and growing relationship with New York Cares. Last year, in the midst of the pandemic, we donated $10,000 to New York Cares and $10,000 to Direct Relief to support COVID-19 relief efforts. Founded in 1987, New York Cares provides year-round volunteer programs for New Yorkers in education. They also have programs to address hunger, homelessness, health and wellness, and beautify public spaces. Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization, with a mission to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies.
