Increased access to information helps businesses run more smoothly. A centralized information application helped Aeroméxico keep their flight crews informed and reduced their carbon emissions. Aeroméxico is the flagship airline of Mexico, based in Mexico City. It operates scheduled services to more than 90 destinations in Mexico, North, South, and Central America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. It is Mexico’s largest international airline group, and it is one of the four founding members of the SkyTeam airline alliance, along with Air France, Delta Air Lines, and Korean Air. Challenge Scheduling is crucial in the airline industry. Aeroméxico required a user-friendly platform to streamline coordination between employees for scheduling purposes, that would not disrupt pilots and flight attendants from their critical tasks. In addition, they needed to reduce paperwork and resources in reporting materials and manuals. Solution Aeroméxico worked with Orion Mexico to develop a solution to streamline coordination between employees. We created the Aeroméxico Information tool, a mobile app for pilots and flight attendants that facilitates the distribution of corporate and operational information, such as; manuals, statements, itineraries, and meteorological information as well as policies in each country. For airline crews, the content is updated in real-time from the cloud, which allows the crew to carry out their most precise tasks during a flight. Key features: Centralized Management of information Offline functionality Content updated in real-time Parameters monitored by the application: Read Notifications Pending content to read, read content Report of usage by user Update metrics showing who has the latest features, policies, and technical information that is mandatory by the labor unions and regulatory institutions. Impact Developing the app and the intranet helped save over 5 million pages of onboard technical manuals. This reduced the weight of information required on the aircraft and, as a result, an estimated 1,500-ton reduction in CO2 emissions. The app also keeps flight crews informed with the most valuable and up-to-date information which allows them to apply the procedures according to the current regulations, to provide safety and the best service to the passengers.
