The new website features multiple wayfinding tools to facilitate different modes of discovery, which enables users to create their own guided journey to find what is meaningful for them.
RIT was established nearly 200 years ago and currently has a student body of more than 19,000 students, with partnerships and connections across the globe.
Challenge
RIT was looking to redesign the user experience of its website to better reflect the University’s vision, values, and core messages. They were trying to develop a comprehensive design system that could be applied to the main website, as well as all of the various colleges, centers, and departments.
Solution
RIT turned to Orion to undertake this effort. Our Experience Design (XD) experts worked to align the multitude of different expressions of the digital experience into a unified brand and voice so the University’s message would be clear. Our team worked to simplify the information across multiple aspects without siloing students, promoting the various opportunities across their many disciplines and resources.
The XD team worked on a solution to make the information throughout the site dynamic—which allows for a more personalized user experience for each individual. With the client’s direction, we developed a topical taxonomy that encompasses the entire University, enabling a more robust inclusion of relevant material.
Impact
The University’s website is now visually appealing, has a cohesive design language, and is an engaging user experience. Our team helped establish an institutional voice that highlights the focus on social and global issues, creativity, and innovation, conveyed through authentic global stories highlighting students and staff.
